Oakferry Games

Fathomling — Android

Hold to rise.
Release to sink.
That is the whole game.

A one-finger dive into a reef that lights itself. Scoop the motes, weave past the urchins, and see how far your nerve takes you before the water gets busy.

0 m — the surface

There is nothing to learn

Most one-touch games make you tap. This one makes you breathe. Your finger controls buoyancy, and buoyancy has weight and lag, so the orb keeps travelling after you let go.

Hold

Press anywhere and the orb inflates, then climbs. It builds speed rather than jumping.

Release

Let go and the water takes over. Sinking is not failure, it is how you line up the next climb.

Drag

Slide your thumb across to steer. The orb chases your finger, so aiming is fast and forgiving.

30 m — the reef thickens

What it looks like down there

Captured on a phone, not mocked up. The glow, the urchins and the particle bursts are all drawn by the game at sixty frames a second.

A run in progress at eighty-seven metres, the screen scattered with gold motes, pink urchins and cyan shield rings.
Eighty-seven metres down, and the water is crowded.
The orb ringed in cyan with a shield badge in the heads-up display, eighty points scored.
A shield buys you exactly one mistake.
The Glow Skins list showing Pearl equipped, with Aurora, Ember and Void available at ninety-nine cents each.
Four colours of light. None of them play differently.

60 m — the dark part

What makes it worth the space on your phone

Drift, not flap

This is not a tap-to-flap clone wearing a diving mask. Buoyancy fights gravity with damping in between, so the orb glides, overshoots and settles. Learning to read that lag is the skill the whole game is built on, and it is why a run you nearly lost can still be saved.

No ads inside a run

There are no banners and no interstitials. The only advert is one you choose to watch, to revive once after you have already died.

Built for a shared phone

A grown-up question stands in front of every purchase. Kids Mode tightens it further and hands out a free revive when no advert is loaded.

Sound made, not sampled

Every chime and thud is synthesised as it plays. Nothing is streamed and nothing is stored, which is part of why the download is so small.

Your score stays yours

There is no account and no leaderboard server. Your best depth is written to your phone and never leaves it.

Family and privacy, in plain terms

Fathomling asks for no account and collects no name, email or phone number. Your progress and settings are stored on your device.

Purchases go through Google Play, so we never see a card number. The one optional advert is served by Google AdMob, which does receive device identifiers in order to deliver it. Those requests are tagged as child-directed, under the age of consent, rated G, and non-personalised.

Read the full privacy policy or get in touch if something here is unclear.

Take a breath

Fathomling arrives on Google Play shortly. This page will carry the link the day it does.
